Keith Russell Allow me to introduce myself: my name is Keith Russell. I live smack bang in the middle of a busy lifetime. I combine two positions working both for SURFfoundation in the Netherlands and the international initiative Knowledge Exchange.

SURFfoundation is a foundation which is responsible for ICT innovations for all institutes of higher education in the Netherlands. As the community manager of the SURFshare programme on the one hand I am responsible for collecting, exchanging and communicating findings from various projects. But at least as important is connecting with the community in the Netherlands and ensuring the work that is being undertaken matches the demand of the institutes. The SURfshare programme is directed at encouraging the sharing and publishing of research publications and associated materials. Projects include exploring the use of enhanced publications, persistent identifiers and the storing and sharing of research data.

My other position is at Knowledge Exchange, a collaboration of four national funding bodies from Denmark, Great Britain, Germany and the Netherlands directed at bringing together experts, sharing experiences and working together 'to make a layer of scholarly and scientific content openly available on the Internet'. In this initiative I am the coordinator and ensure that activities in the various working groups are aligned and communicated.

I am the proud father of two lovely kids. When I have the time I like to go outside. Every now and then I manage to fit in a spot of potholing. This is mostly in the Ardennes in Belgium. If I can find the time I hope to return to the Alps for some alpine climbing. To keep my body moving I am member of the Utrecht Morris Team. I also train a kids team at my old rugby club. And finally I regularly meet up with a group of friends to discuss a philosophical article or book. We have discussed Scruton, Russell, Kant, Nietzsche among others and are now occupied with developments in our present day society.
